We all make mistakes. And it’s actually a good thing that we do.
Why?
Because if we’re not making mistakes, then we’re not trying anything new. We’re not doing anything different.
Mistakes only happen when we get out of our comfort zones and do something we don’t normally do.
We should look forward to making mistakes every single day.
It’s what makes us learn, grow and thrive.
So, with that being said, let’s look at 3 affiliate marketing mistakes that you might make:
#1 – Not Building An Email List
The affiliate marketing business model is simple. You find a product that has an affiliate program, apply, get your link and post that link online.
But if you actually do it that way, don’t be surprised if you get very few sales. People rarely buy something the first time they see it. You have no way of getting them to see the product again.
The smarter way is to get people onto your email list first, then send them to the affiliate product. You can then email those people, send them to the same offer or to different ones. You now have the ability to contact them multiple times. And that will always lead to more conversions.
You just need to give something away of perceived value and a way to collect their email address. There are tons of PLR products you can find to give away and you can use Aweber to collect the emails and to send the emails out. It’s FREE to use until you hit 500 subscribers.
#2 – Promoting One Time Sales
If you are only getting paid once per product you promote, then you’re going to need to drive a lot of traffic to the product to make serious profit.
Instead of doing that, look for:
Monthly Recurring Products – These are products or services that charge a monthly fee. As an affiliate, you also get paid monthly for each sale you make. That means you get paid over and over again, for making just one sale.
Products With Upsells – Many products will have a marketing funnel, which includes other products people can buy. These will typically be offered when someone buys the low ticket opening product. As an affiliate, you get paid for any other product someone buys from that funnel.
It’s a great way to turn an initial $7 commission into $50 or $100+
#3 – Relying On One Product
Businesses go out of business. It’s just the way of the world.
Therefore, if you are completely reliant on one business or product for your income, then you’re on very rocky ground.
I did this when I first started out online. Built my entire affiliate marketing business based around making money with Google Adsense. Everything was going great until I woke up to an email that changed everything.
“Dear Mr Newton, Your Google Adsense account has been terminated with immediate effect”.
At the time I was doing a healthy 4 figures a month and they held back the previous months earnings too.
Lost everything.
But I didn’t give up. I quickly turned to ClickBank instead and managed to get some income coming back in right away.
From there, I turned to making blogs with WordPress, selling my own courses and several other things along the way.
Summary
I have made a lot of mistakes along my 17 year online journey. Hopefully these tips will help you to avoid the same mistakes I made.
Affiliate marketing mistakes happen. Just make sure they don’t stop you dead in your tracks.
Keep moving forward and never ever give up!
