You can’t steer a stationary ship…

That line arrived in my inbox this morning from a writer called Nicolas Cole. I’ve only recently started following him as he has amassed millions of views online from his writing.

It really struck a chord with me and how my own journey has recently changed.

It’s mentioned a lot in Earl Nightingales video here. If you send a ship off out into the ocean with no crew and no destination, then it’s 99.9% going to end up on the rocks somewhere. That’s if it even manages to get out of the harbour.

But if the ship has a crew and a set destination, then 99.9% of the time it will end up in that exact spot.

Same goes with your own life.

If you don’t have goals (your destination), then you might just lead a ‘normal’ life with nothing spectacular happening at all.

Maybe ‘wanting’ to get out of your harbour but not sure where to go.

That’s why it’s crucial to have set goals. You need to give your mind something to focus on.

That’s your destination and where your ship will sail.

Anyway I digress…

Here’s 3 steps to getting exactly what you want out of life, whether it’s business, health or relationships.

#1 – The System

  • If you want to make money online, you need a proven, solid system to follow.
  • If you want to lose weight, build muscle, six pack abs, you need a proven, solid system to follow.
  • If you want to find a new partner, you need to find a system where single people hang out.

Once you have your system, you then need to work that system until it pays off for you.

#2 – The Mindset

If you have no plan B, no turning back, no giving up, then you have a very high chance of achieving anything you set your mind to.

But if you go into something with the mindset of ‘well, I’ll give it a go‘ or ‘the last thing I tried didn’t work, doubt this one will but we’ll see‘ then chances are you’re not going to give it all you’ve got and you will fail.

If you plant the seed into your mind that something might not work, that’s exactly what your mind will deliver to you.

We all become what we think about.

Think negative things, you’ll get negative results.

Think positive. Think like you already have the result you strive for. Think like a winner. Then that’s exactly what your mind will deliver.

Think positive things, you’ll get positive results.

#3 – Daily Habits

Your daily habits will produce the results you now have set in your mind.

Each day needs to get your ship closer to that final destination.

If your ship fails to move for days or weeks, then those negative thoughts will spring into action and you’ll be catapulted back into the harbour.

Your mind will tell you it was right all along and you are much safer being stuck by the land.

But stick with those daily habits, keep pushing forward and one day (usually 30-60 days into it) those habits will become completely normal and you’ll do them without even thinking about them.

No looking back.

Moving forward everyday.

Once this happens, you’ll find the ship moves faster, the sea becomes smoother and you can’t believe how much you are now enjoying the voyage.

But if you don’t break through and get to that point, you’ll be constantly turning around and heading back to shore.

This applies to everything in life.

So, next time you try something and are thinking about giving up and heading back, just picture how good the journey will be if you DON’T turn around.

You just need to stick at it and the smooth sea is right there waiting for you.
